During a cupping session, round cups are very briefly heated with a flame and immediately placed directly on the skin. The internal heat causes a vacuum/suction effect. The cups are then left on your skin for several minutes and sometimes moved around while still suctioned, creating a reverse-massage type of effect.
The benefits of cupping are to increase blood flow and qi to the area where placed. This can help with aches and pains, along with several other diagnosis.
Cupping became part of the mainstream conversation during the 2016 Summer Olympics, when swimmer Michael Phelps showed up to compete with round bruises covering his back. Cupping was documented in one of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, Ebers Papyrus, which was written in 1550 BC.

Prescription Earth Patient Reviews
Melissa’s caring and thoughtful approach to my acupuncture treatments has been a blessing. My symptoms included sleep struggles, poor circulation (very cold hands and feet), anxiousness, chronic sinus issues, lack of energy, and active UC. While I had used acupuncture before with some positive benefits it was painful and somewhat impersonal in the approach. Melissa’s treatments were completely without pain and so calming I was able to have a wonderful time of relaxation during each treatment. The results have been very positive and I am grateful for Melissa and the care she has provided as it has been very helpful for my healing.
After working as a bartender for 25+ years my body had taken the toll. I suffered from chronic pain in my neck, shoulders, and lower back. The pain stiffened the life I wanted to live. I could not sit or stand for long. I had a lump in my right shoulder that felt like scar tissue. My family doctor prescribed pain medication. My chiropractor would release some stiffness but it wasn’t until I began seeing Melissa did I feel any real long standing improvement. After a few sessions, I began to feel immediate improvements and my skepticism faded. I noticed I was sleeping better. I even began hearing my muscle tissue adjusting when I would stretch and practice yoga. We even worked on some emotional issues that I had pent up that I firmly believe aided in my recovery. I don’t feel 100% but I feel better than I have in years and relish in the gratitude that my body can and will heal. I am slowly getting better at the gym and doing activities that I wouldn’t even attempt a year ago. Thank you Melissa for your gift of healing.
On my way home I could tell a big difference in my comfort in pelvis not sure how describe but I feel lighter in that area. I’ve been so used to having pain every day you just notice when it becomes a “9” or “10”. Now my pelvis feels lighter with hardly any achiness at all. Thank you
